The Battle Is Not Yours But Gods

Writer's picture: Andrea BrownAndrea Brown

In His presence, she found peace,

And in His victory, her striving ceased.

The battle was never hers to claim,

But the Lord’s—

His power and glory will forever be proclaimed!

I.

Friend, are you overwhelmed by a battle that seems too big to win?

What if I told you it’s not yours to fight?

I’ve been walking through some things and supping on the Word, and I was reminded: The battle is not mine but the Lord’s.

I don’t know who else needs to hear this today, but the battle you feel coming for you—that mountain you are facing, the diagnosis that was given, the wayward child refusing to accept correction, the marriage where trust was broken, the friendship that has become entangled, the addiction, fear, failure, whatever it is—

It Is Not Yours, But God’s!

“And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

II Chronicles 20:15.

Cease striving. Be still.  Be enamored by His presence and captivated by the Lord’s beauty. As we do, we realize something profound: the armor of God is not something we put on—it is something we are already in because of our position in Christ. And let’s not forget—the armor isn’t ours, but His.

“For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.”

Isaiah 59:17

Beloved, there is nothing we are going through that He is not already aware of. Soak in the truth!

II.

This passage speaks sweetly to my heart—and I believe it will to yours as well—because it points to the redemption God has brought through Christ Jesus our Lord.

“As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.” Isaiah 59:21

This is important because what we say and do in trials matters. It shapes our experience of His victory.

Let’s remember the twelve spies. Ten gave an evil report, and a nation did not enter the promised land. And yet, Joshua and Caleb believed God. They said, “And said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” Numbers 14:7-9

Here are 5 Quick Takes:

🌟 If the Lord—is since the Lord delights. Your view of God will determine how you receive that.

🌟He will bring us—God is always working, and His alone is the glory.

🌟Do not fear—the presence of the Living God is with us.

🌟They are our bread—the trial is not from God but will be used by God to train us to rule and reign with Him. Stewardship of and during the trial is Key.

🌟 Their protection is removed—the ability to see from heaven’s vantage point is a choice.

The children of God see things through a different lens (more on this soon). Though we reside here, we live in His sight. His presence outweighs our present reality, so we approach each moment with an eternal perspective.

III.

And if you’re feeling like you’re in this battle because of your own mistakes, hear this: God’s grace is greater than even the mess of our own making!  Remember, the story is His. The journey is us in Him.  He holds the pen. He already knew you’d be where you are. Look to Him. The LORD is there.

Now, for the person thinking grace is a license to sin—let’s be clear: God’s grace NEVER leads to licentiousness!  Anyone who twists grace into an excuse to remain in sin should seriously examine their heart. That is a dangerous position to take🔥.

Grace is not a loophole—Grace is the Person of Jesus, and He is the Way. He gives us the power through the Spirit to say,

“Though I messed up because of Who He is and what He has done, I will bring it to Him, repent, renew my mind, and allow Him to lead me out of it.”

The greatest act of humility is to cease striving, accept the rest of God, and trust His character in the chaos. If you get nothing else, understanding this vital truth is priceless!

IV.

Practically, what does this look like?

1️⃣ STOP. Be still before the Lord. Wait for Him to act.

⚠️ Don’t bypass this critical step of enjoying stillness.  Remember, the things that bother us—the agitation, the frustration—are invitations to rest in God’s presence, peace, wisdom, and strength.

2️⃣ Then, once you've quieted yourself, speak what God says, not what you think or feel.

(And let’s be honest, this doesn’t mean we don’t acknowledge our feelings. But how we process them in faith matters. Look at David in the Psalms—he felt deeply but always came back to trusting God’s character.)

Jesus died for us, and that is more than enough evidence.

The Holy Spirit lives in us, which is overwhelming proof.

—God can be trusted.

Finally, let’s not exchange stirring about the issue for striving for the outcome.  The enemy is good at the bait and switch.

Instead, let’s be intentional:

💁🏾‍♀️Be all in with God. Allow Him to be God. He’s good at it. 😉 And just so we are clear— He is faithful, even when we aren’t.

At the right time, He will remove a thing, restore a thing, or grow us through a thing.

But it is always Him doing the thing

—so let’s allow Him.

If we react in our flesh instead of responding in faith, He will allow that, too. We are free will agents. It’s our choice. But know this: He loves us, and He is with us.  Like He was with the Israelites in the wilderness, He will never leave or forsake us.

He allows us to wrestle through things, even to exhaust ourselves, searching for a way. He knows that, eventually, we’ll become tired.  Like a wrestler leaning on the ropes, desperate to tag their partner in. Like a drowning person losing strength in storm-tossed waves. And when we finally surrender—The Lifeguard steps in.

Here’s my point: It doesn’t have to be that way. We can exit stage left and go to the Door in our Valley of Achor.  We can walk in the Way by reminding ourselves of these five words of grace: The Battle 🗡️Is The Lord’s 👑

“You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

II Chronicles 20:17

Soak in His presence.

Then, watch in amazement at His work.

Worship Him—because He is worthy.

“And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”

II Chronicles 20:21

What battle are you surrendering to the Lord today?

How can you rest in His presence and trust His deliverance?

These were just thoughts 💭glorious 🕊️thoughts 💬, and He turned them into a post.

Lord, You are so good.
